And again, this project is not about guns. It’s about rights. If I can collect concrete illustrations of the conflict over the rights of individual Americans, without politicizing them or steering my audience toward any particular view, I will have succeeded. To do that, I choose the arena of armament, because that is where sparks are hottest.

Here are some fires those sparks have started:

Would you give up your guns if laws were passed
Still can't have someone tell me why we need guns
Montanans insist on gun rights

This is the world we live in. The ideas fought over in those links are the same ideas that midwifed this country--it came into the world kicking and screaming, all because the government tried to round up the guns. You may feel one way, you may feel the other. All I’m saying is: Do not forget.
